Rohit Sharma opened up on the combination of India’s squad.

India captain Rohit Sharma has finally answered the question regarding the selection of a spate of spinners and spin-bowling all-rounders in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

In their provisional squad, India had picked four spinners and spin-bowling all-rounders: Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja. Then, upon finalizing the squad, the selectors added Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad as well, replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal, taking the count up to six in their 15-man squad.

A few other teams like England and Australia have only one specialist spinner in their squad with a couple of other supporting part-timers.

There are two spinners, the other three are all-rounders: Rohit Sharma

On the eve of India’s first match of the tournament against Bangladesh in Dubai, Rohit responded to a query regarding five spinners in the squad.

Sharma downplayed the assessment that India have picked five spinners, pointing out that three of them are all-rounders.

Rohit said in the pre-match press conference, “There are two spinners, the other three are all-rounders. I am not looking at them as a five spinners. Those three guys can bat and can bowl also. The other teams have fast bowlers and all-rounders. They say that they have six fast bowlers, which is good. But we work on our strength and try to run the team on that.”

Rohit added, “Those three guys, Jadeja, Axar, Washi, give us a different dimension to the game, to our combination, to our squad. And they add a lot to this team and give us a lot of depth. That is why we wanted to try and get the players who can have two skills rather than one skill.”

India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy, 2025: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy.
