Travis Head sustained a fracture on his left hand last month during Australia's tour of South Africa.

Australia’s performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been unlike Australia's in the World Cup. It is far from being termed decent as well. Australia’s batting unit hasn't really performed as expected in both of their first two league games against India and South Africa. Australia failed to even touch 200 runs mark playing in Chennai and Lucknow. Travis Head’s return to Australian camp before Sri Lanka encounter will be a big booster for the team.

Travis Head may have joined Australian camp for the training, but he still can't play against Sri Lanka at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Travis Head was injured during Australia's pre-World Cup tour of South Africa. Head was hit by Gerald Coetzee’s short ball in a 5-match ODI series against South Africa. Head sustained a fracture on his left hand and was ruled out for the 3-match ODI series against India.

Head reveals comeback date

Australia’s stand-in opener, Travis Head, has spoken about his comeback date in the World Cup. Head said six weeks were required to recover without any surgery. According to Travis Head, “It is coming along well, and probably better than we hoped. When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery, we were told it would be a minimum of six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again."

Australian left-hand batter informed me that Netherlands game on October 25 will end his 6-weeks timeline. Head added, “Following this plan, the Netherlands match is just under six weeks from the impact, and it’s quite an ambitious target. Everything would need to progress perfectly from here to meet the deadline.” Australia will be playing against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.

Before Netherlands, Australia will be playing two big games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Travis Head said that he is excited to get back together with Australian camp for World Cup event. Head said, “We will assess the things that develop in the coming days, and I am eagerly looking forward to the possibility of reuniting with the team overseas this week.” Australia suffered heavy defeats in their first two league encounters.
