ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Dasun Shanaka doubtful for Sri Lanka's next match against Australia
Dasun Shanaka will not be available for AUS clash on October 16 in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
It hasn't been a good tournament for Sri Lanka so far, as they have not won any games so far in their first two attempts. Sri Lanka lost their opening game against South Africa and conceded the highest World Cup total of 428 runs. Then they lost against Pakistan and couldn't defend a huge total of 348 runs. Now their next game will be even bigger.
Sri Lanka will lock horns with the five-time champions Australia on October 16 (Monday) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Australia are also coming off two consecutive defeats in their first two matches and are expected to come hard at the Sri Lankans. However, ahead of the game, Sri Lanka are dealt another massive blow as skipper Dasun Shanaka is likely to miss the coming game.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Dasun Shanaka to miss the coming game against Australia in Lucknow
The Sri Lankan captain will be missing the all-important clash against Australia on October 16 in Lucknow. Dasun Shanaka even didn't come for the training session ahead of the AUS-SL clash in Lucknow. Notably, Sri Lanka's speedster Matheesha Pathirana will not be available for the next two games for his team. Shanaka looked at South Africa and smashed a 62-ball 68.
But against Pakistan, he missed and got out for 12 runs. But his all-round skills make him a great asset to the team, and he is a game-changer in the Sri Lankan lineup. Dasun Shanaka not being available for the game will be a big miss for his team in an almost must-win match.
The Sri Lankan captain was ruled out due to injury concerns. It has added more worries to the camp because they are already without their main four bowlers, including Wanindu Hasaranga. And now two key players will be missing the next game. Pathirana is out due to a shoulder injury. He went for scans, and according to the medical reports, he would be out of action for a week.
