Indian captain Rohit Sharma has provided update on opener Shubman Gill ahead of IND vs PAK clash.
India will be playing against their arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-voltage encounter at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. India and Pakistan are on an unbeaten run winning two out of their two league games in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Both teams are currently sweating it out at Narendra Modi Stadium to prepare for the big game. Indian captain Rohit Sharma shared some good news in a pre-match conference that took place in Ahmedabad.
Shubman Gill missed the first two league games against Australia and Afghanistan due to dengue fever. Earlier the reports came suggesting Gill might also miss the big game against Pakistan as well. Gill arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening and joined the Indian camp after a short medical treatment he received in a Chennai hospital. Now, Indian captain Rohit has shared some good news saying Gill is 99% fit for the big game against Pakistan.
Rohit informs about Shubman Gill
Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that Shubman Gill is 99% fit for the Pakistan game. Rohit said, “99% he (Shubman Gill) is available for the match. Rest we will see tomorrow.” Gill has also taken part in the practice session along with the others. Gill had a net batting session in Ahmedabad on Friday. Gill will also be looking to get fit as soon as possible and become part of the high-profile encounter between India and Pakistan.
Ishan Kishan opened the innings along with Indian captain Rohit in the first two league games against Australia and Afghanistan. Kishan was out on duck against Australia while chasing 200 runs total. And then he went on to score 47 runs against Afghanistan in Delhi. Kishan partnered Rohit, while the captain scored the fastest century in the World Cup by any Indian batter. In case Gill gets 100% fit he will be replacing Ishan Kishan.
India and Pakistan have won their first two games. India defeated Australia and Afghanistan while Pakistan defeated Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Indian team management will probably play with the same playing XI they played against Afghanistan. For a better use of the conditions in Ahmedabad, India might be going in with Shardul Thakur and prefer the pace bowling option. India have won all their previous 7 games against Pakistan in the World Cup.
