ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Shubman Gill starts batting in nets ahead of IND vs PAK clash
Shubman Gill has joined the Indian camp in Ahmedabad after missing first two games of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Shubman Gill has hit the nets, after his bout with dengue. The opener is currently recovering and was seen sweating it out in the nets in Ahmedabad. Gill was discharged from a hospital in Chennai couple of days ago. However, his availability for the crucial match against Pakistan on October 14th is still uncertain.
So far, Ishan Kishan played alongside Rohit Sharma in Gill's absence. Gill didn't travel to Delhi for their second fixture against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, he was seen reaching in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night. The youngster is India's highest run-getter in ODIs this year. Gill has amassed 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. His absence is a major concern for the hosts as Gill has hit two hundreds and a fifty in his last 4 innings and he looked in red hot form.
A few fans have posted pictures of Shubman Gill batting in nets in Ahmedabad ahead of the high-voltage clash between the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan.
India, however, didn't let Gill's absence have any impact on their opening two games of the World Cup campaign. The hosts beat Australia in a clinical fashion before putting Afghanistan on the mat in their second outing. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have found their mojo at the right time. Along with them, KL Rahul, too looked good against Australia, scoring a match-winning 97* run-knock. In the bowling font, spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have been amongst wickets while Jasprit Bumrah has impressed one and all with his impressive showing.
It will be interesting to see whether Gill recovers in time to participate in the big-ticket encounter against Pakistan. Ishan Kishan hasn't fired with his bat so far and hence Gill's availability will boost India's batting line-up.
