ICC docks vital WTC 2023-25 points from England and Australia

The Ashes 2023 ended in a 2-2 draw between Australia and England.
After the Ashes 2023 ended in an exciting 2-2 draw with the England team winning the fifth and final Test at the Oval to give Stuart Broad a fitting farewell, some bad news has befallen not only the hosts but the visiting Australian team as well, courtesy, the ICC.
Due to their slow over-rate during the men’s Ashes, Australia and England have lost significant ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points and been fined.
They were subject to a five percent match fee penalty and one WTC point for each extra run under the new rules.
For a slow over-rate in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Australia has been deducted 10 WTC points from the recently finished Ashes series, and England has lost 19 points overall for trailing in four of the five Tests.
In the WTC, teams receive 12 points for a Test victory, 4 points for a draw, and 0 points for a defeat. A team must typically bowl 90 overs in a single day.
In the first Test at Edgbaston, England was short by two overs; in the second Test at Lord’s, by nine; in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, by three; and in the fifth and final Test at The Oval, by five.
Australia lose 10 WTC points; England lose 19
The most recent adjustments to the over-rate sanctions in Tests were made public on Thursday, July 13 at the ICC Annual Conference in Durban, South Africa, and went into effect at the beginning of the current WTC cycle.
Australia was handed a 50 percent fine of their match fee (five percent for each over short with a maximum of 50 percent) for 10 overs in Manchester (fourth Test).
England have been fined 10 percent for the first Test, 45 percent for the second, 15 percent for the fourth, and 25 percent for the fifth of their match fee for slow-over rate offenses in the first two and the last two Tests respectively.
The new rules, which were retroactively implemented before the start of the third World Test Championship, penalized England two points for sluggish over-rate in the first Test. This fine trumps any penalties previously stated.
