Bangladesh have requested ICC to host their matches outside India due to security reasons.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to shift the venues of Bangladesh’s matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, according to a report by Cricbuzz. However, they will not be moved out of India as ICC is looking for two different venues within the country.

After Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) squad from Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) instruction, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were unsatisfied with the move. As a result, they decided not to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to commence next month.

In a recent meeting, BCB decided that they will play their games in Sri Lanka- the co-hosts of the tournament. They also sent an official letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to accept their request. However, ICC refused to accept their demand and asked them to either travel to India or risk forfeiting points in the tournament, as reports suggested.

As per the current schedule, Bangladesh are set to clash with West Indies, Italy, and England at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, followed by their last group stage match against Nepal in Mumbai. Although ICC has refused to schedule their matches outside India, the Governing body is exploring different venues to schedule their matches.

As per the report by Cricbuzz, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) have been sounded by the ICC and BCCI for hosting Bangladesh’s matches in ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

This means that MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram are two possible venues that can host Bangladesh’s games. Both the state cricket associations have informed ICC and BCCI that they have no issue in hosting the matches, as they have eight pitches.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are placed in Group C in ICC T20 World Cup 2026 alongside Italy, Nepal, West Indies, and England.
