ICC refute rumours of JioStar parting ways; confirm deal for next four years

JioStar will continue to broadcast live coverage of upcoming ICC events.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar have released a joint statement denying all ongoing rumours about JioStar’s early exit from the ICC broadcasting media rights deal.
Several news outlets had reported that JioStar had informed the ICC about its inability to fulfill the remaining two years of the contract, which runs through 2027, due to heavy financial losses, leaving the ICC searching for a replacement broadcaster.
Reports also suggest that the ICC has relaunched the tender for the 2026–29 media rights cycle, targeting a valuation of around $2.4 billion, with major companies such as Netflix, Amazon and Sony also approached. However, these reports claimed that interest from potential bidders remained low.
Amidst these speculations, neither organisation had issued an official response until now. Both the ICC and JioStar have now publicly denied all rumours regarding the termination of their contract.
Statement of ICC and JioStar
The International Cricket Council and JioStar clarified that JioStar remains committed to its media rights agreement (2024–27) in India and will telecast the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in February as scheduled.
According to their Joint Statement:-
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar have noted recent media reports concerning the status of the ICC’s media rights agreement in India. These reports do not reflect the position of either organisation. The existing agreement between the ICC and JioStar remains fully in force, and JioStar continues as the ICC’s official media rights partner in India. Any suggestion that JioStar has withdrawn from the agreement is incorrect.”
“JioStar is fully committed to honouring its contractual obligations in letter and spirit. Both organisations remain focused on delivering uninterrupted, world-class coverage of upcoming ICC events to fans across India, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, one of the sport’s most anticipated global tournaments.”
“Preparations for these events are progressing exactly as planned, and there is no impact on viewers, advertisers, or industry partners. ICC and JioStar, as long-term commercial partners, maintain regular communication on operational, commercial and strategic matters focused on the role the partnership can play in growing the sport.”
