ICC has revealed pitch and outfield ratings for the first four ENG vs IND tests.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the pitch and outfield ratings for the recently concluded five-match test series between India and England. Notably, ICC has shared the pitch ratings for the first four games. The ratings for the fifth test at The Oval, London, will be revealed later.

Surprisingly, only the pitch at Headingley, Leeds, has earned a “very good rating”. ICC rates pitches across four categories- Very Good, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory, and Unfit. The opening game at Headingley was a high-scoring one, where four Indian batters slammed centuries.

India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant hammered centuries across both innings of the match. In the end, England chased down a 373-run target in the encounter by five wickets. While Ollie Pope slammed a ton in the first innings, Ben Duckett hammered a hundred in the second innings for England. Below are ICC’s pitch ratings for the ENG vs IND test series.

Pitch and Outfield Ratings for the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy 2025

  • 1st Test – Headingley, Leeds – Pitch: Very Good, Outfield: Very Good
  • 2nd Test – Edgbaston, Birmingham – Pitch: Satisfactory, Outfield: Very Good
  • 3rd Test – Lord’s, London – Pitch: Satisfactory, Outfield: Very Good
  • 4th Test – Old Trafford, Manchester – Pitch: Satisfactory, Outfield: Very Good

Notably, the batting-friendly pitches in England became a topic of discussion among fans and the media. All five games went until day five, with four of them producing a result. The fourth test at Old Trafford, Manchester, ended in a draw after India batted for almost two days in the second innings.

Interestingly, the pitches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 have fared better than The Ashes 2023, where none of the five pitches earned a “very good” rating. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, four pitches out of five received a rating of “very good”.

Joe Root (537), Harry Brook (481), Ben Duckett (462), and Jamie Smith (434) were the leading run-scorers for the hosts. In the bowling department, Mohammed Siraj (23), Jasprit Bumrah (14) and Prasidh Krishna (14) were the highest wicket-takers for the visitors.
