Five venues in India, three in Sri Lanka finalized for ICC T20 World Cup 2026; Ahmedabad to host the final

ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is set to begin in February and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally selected five cities in India to host ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches. The T20 World Cup will be held by India and its neighbours, Sri Lanka, and hence a few matches of the tournament will also take place in Sri Lanka.
India are the incumbent ICC T20 World Cup winners, having won the tournament in 2024 under Rohit Sharma’s guidance. The tournament will comprise 20 participating teams in the competition.
BCCI unveils list of venues in India for the T20 World Cup 2026; Ahmedabad to host the final
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a list of five venues in India for the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, which will also be co-hosted by Sri Lanka. This is because the BCCI has decided that ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches will be held in fewer venues than ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023.
This was because the BCCI officials agreed that the locations for ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India, which included Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Navi Mumbai, would not be utilized again for the men’s T20 World Cup next year.
Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, and the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai have been finalized as the venues for the T20 World Cup next year, as per an ESPNCricinfo report.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, the co-hosts of the next year’s T20 World Cup, will host the tournament matches across three venues. The two shortlisted locations by ICC in Sri Lanka are two venues in Colombo and one in Kandy as the three venues in Sri Lanka.
The T20 World Cup is set to begin on February 7 and will conclude with the final in Ahmedabad on March 8.
ICC clarifies verdict on semi-final venues
In accordance with the agreement established between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowing India and Pakistan to play at neutral grounds during multi-nation championships hosted by the other nation, Pakistan will play all of their games in Sri Lanka. In case Pakistan reach semi-finals or finals of the tournament, then these matches will be played in Sri Lanka itself.
The ICC has informed the BCCI that if Sri Lanka advances to the competition’s knockout stages, their match will take place in their country rather than in India. The suggestion appeared to have been approved by the BCCI as well.
