Full list of cricketers to win both ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and ICC Cricketer of the Year Award in same year

Three Indians have won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and ICC Cricketer of the Year awards in the same year.

The ICC Awards are handed out by the ICC annually for the best players in both genders in each of the three formats and to the best player across the three formats.

The first time the ICC awards were presented was in 2004. Former India captain Virat Kohli holds the record for the most awards won by an individual with 10 awards.

There have been some players who have held both the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Cricketer of the Year awards at the same time through exceptional performances in test cricket and across formats in the same year.

Let us see these players.

List of cricketers to win both ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and ICC Cricketer of the Year Award in same year:

1. Rahul Dravid – 2004

Rahul Dravid was the first recipient of the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2004. He also won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year at the same event.

In the timeframe for the nominations for this event, Dravid produced stellar performances in the 2003-04 season. In nine tests, he scored 1241 runs and in 30 ODIs, he scored 960 runs. He recorded four centuries and 12 fifties in this period.

2. Jacques Kallis – 2005

South Africa’s Jacques Kallis shared the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2005 award with England’s Andrew Flintoff. Kallis also won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2005.

During the voting period, Kallis played 15 tests and scored 1497 runs at an average of 71, including six hundreds, along with taking 20 wickets. In ODIs, Kallis scored 697 runs at 41 and picked up eight wickets.

3. Ricky Ponting – 2006

Ricky Ponting dominated the ICC awards 2006 by winning the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards.

During the voting period, that is from August 1 2005 to August 8 2006, Ponting was the leading test scorer in the world with 1791 runs, including nine centuries, and the second-leading scorer across formats with 2744 runs at 58 with 11 tons to his name.

4. Kumar Sangakkara – 2012

While during his peak years, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara bagged the prestigious awards of ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year in 2012.

The voting period for this award was between August 4, 2011 and August 6, 2012. In this, Sangakkara was the highest test run-scorer, the second-highest ODI scorer, and the highest run-scorer across formats. He hit eight centuries in this period and averaged 60 in test cricket.

5. Michael Clarke – 2013

At the ICC award 2013, Australia’s Michael Clarke bagged the twin awards ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year. The voting period for this award was between August 7, 2012 and August 25, 2013.

In this period, Clarke was the leading test run-scorer, averaging 70 in the format with five tons in 14 tests, and the third-highest scorer across formats.

6. Mitchell Johnson – 2014

Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson collected the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2014 awards on the back of his sensational performance at the Ashes 2013/14.

In the voting period, which was from August 26, 2013 to September 17, 2014, Johnson claimed 59 wickets at an average of only 15.23 with five five-fors in eight tests. He also took 21 ODI wickets.

7. Steve Smith – 2015

Steve Smith had an incredible Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014/15 and the World Cup 2015. That helped him bag the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2015 awards.

In the voting period, which was between September 18, 2014, and September 13, 2015, Smith was the leading run-getter in test cricket, with 1734 runs at 82, and plundered 1249 ODI runs at 59.

8. Ravi Ashwin – 2016

India off-spinning all-rounder Ravi Ashwin claimed the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2016 awards.

During the voting period from September 2015 to 2016, Ashwin snared 48 wickets and scored 336 runs in eight tests, along with 27 wickets in 19 T20Is.

9. Virat Kohli – 2018

Former India captain Virat Kohli bagged not two but three top ICC awards for the year 2018 – ICC Cricketer of the Year, ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. He was also named the captain of both ODI and test teams of the year.

Kohli was prolific in 2018 across all three formats. He scored 1322 runs in 13 tests at an average of 55 with five hundreds, and 1202 runs in 14 ODIs at 133, with six centuries. Kohli ended 2018 at the No. 1 spot in the ICC batting rankings for both tests and ODIs.

10. Jasprit Bumrah – 2024

Jasprit Bumrah was the outstanding cricketer in 2024. He won the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 for his scintillating performances.

He topped the wickets chart in test cricket in 2024, with 71 wickets at a stunning average of just 14.92, and was the Man of the Tournament at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which India won. In the tournament, Bumrah picked up 15 wickets at an average of just 8.26 and maintained an economy of only 4.17.
