2 Indians included as ICC announces women's ODI team of the year 2024

Laura Wolvaardt is the captain of the ICC women’s ODI team of the year 2024.

On January 24, the ICC announced the ICC women’s ODI team of the year 2024, naming South African Laura Wolvaardt as the captain of the team.

Wolvaardt earned her place by being the second-highest run-scorer in WODIs in 2024 with 697 runs. The highest WODI scorer last year was India’s Smriti Mandhana.

The middle-order of the ICC women’s ODI team of the year 2024 is dominated by world-class all-rounders.

At No. 3 is Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu, who scored 458 runs and picked up nine wickets in only nine games. She is followed by West Indies’ spin-bowling all-rounder Hayley Matthews, who amassed 469 runs and claimed nine wickets in just seven matches.

The legendary South African pace-bowling all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who took 12 wickets and scored 114 runs, and Australian spin-bowling all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, who scored 269 runs and picked up 20 wickets in 12 matches, form the backbone of the side.

The team has more firepower in the lower-middle-order with Australian Annabel Sutherland (369 runs and 13 wickets in 12 matches) and England wicket-keeper Amy Jones (382 runs and 15 dismissals in 12 matches) in the side.

India’s Deepti Sharma, who claimed 24 wickets alongside scoring 186 runs in 13 matches, makes the cut. And so do the England duo of Sophie Ecclestone (21 wickets in 11 matches) and Kate Cross (19 wickets in 13 matches).

ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024:

Smriti Mandhana, Laura Wolvaardt (C), Chamarti Athapaththu, Hayley Matthews, Marizanne Kapp, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Amy Jones (WK), Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross
