The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from October 3 to October 20 in the UAE.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from October 3 to October 20 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Australia are the most successful team in the history of the tournament, having won six titles in eight editions. The Aussies are also the defending champions of the Women’s T20 World Cup. In fact, they have won the last three Women’s T20 World Cups.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 was originally slated to be held in Bangladesh, but due to the civil and political unrest in the country, the marquee event was shifted to the UAE. The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The upcoming tournament will see 10 teams fighting for the elusive title. These 10 teams are divided into two groups (Group A and Group B) of five teams each.

Group A consists of defending champions Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Group B comprises Bangladesh. England, West Indies, Scotland and South Africa.

Every nation will play four group-stage matches in their respective groups. The top two sides from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The winners of both semifinals will meet in the final on October 20 in Dubai.

On that note, let’s take a look at four nations that are the most likely to reach the semi-finalists of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

1. Australia

Australia are the most successful nation in the history of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup till now. They won six titles (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023) out of the first eight competitions.

Australia have won all the women’s global tournaments since the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2017. Australia, a team with match-winners from top to bottom, will enter the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as the favourites.

2. Indian women’s cricket team

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian cricket team will enter as one of the favourites in the upcoming ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue have lost only seven T20Is since the last edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The Indian side have constantly challenged teams like Australia and England in the T20 World Cups but have crumbled during the knockout matches.

India’s spin attack coupled with the class of senior players Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur makes them a potent unit. India could reach the semi-final in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

3. England women’s cricket team

The England women’s team are the inaugural champions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which they won in 2009. England are also three-time runners-up (2012, 2014, and 2018) in this competition.

In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, England are placed in Group B. The 2009 champions have retained 11 of their 15 squad members that played in the 2023 edition.

Their bowling attack is one of the best in the world in white-ball cricket. With lots of experience and a new aggressive approach, England are a strong title contender this year.

4. South Africa women’s team

South Africa’s women’s cricket team lost the final against Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The cruel part was that it happened in front of their home crowd in Cape Town.

The runners-up of the previous edition are placed in Group B along with England, West Indies, and Bangladesh. Laura Wolvaardt will lead the Proteas side, and she is the most successful T20I batter for them. They have a couple of experienced all-rounders and quality pacers.

Apart from England, South Africa could reach the semi-final from Group B given their opponents.
