The ICC WTC 2023-25 final started with a typical overcast day in London.

South Africa Cricket Team and the Australia Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, which commenced on Wednesday (11th June).

The ICC WTC 2023-25 final started with a typical overcast day in London. The forecast for the rest of the remaining four days doesn’t look great either, and there is also rain predicted, which may be a cause of concern for both South Africa as well as Australia, especially with the title on the line.

The rain predicted over the course of the game means there might be a loss of time and it might not allow to get the winners inside the five days. However, for that, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept a reserve day to make up for the lost time.

ICC has kept reserve day for ICC WTC 2023-25 final on 16th June

The reserve day of the ICC WTC 2023-25 final has been kept on Monday (16th June). It will be used only if time has been lost due bad weather and umpires won’t be able to make up for it. Originally, the game is scheduled to end on Sunday (15th June).

The reserve day came into play during the final of the inaugural edition of ICC WTC 2019-21 between India and New Zealand. During that game, the first day of the play was washed out in Southampton and then to make up for the lost time, the sixth day was used.

Coming to the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, South Africa won the toss and opted to field first. They were off to a dream start with the ball, with Kagiso Rabada removing Usman Khawaja for a 20-ball duck and Cameron Green for four runs inside the first hour of play.

After that, Marco Jansen also stepped up and removed Marnus Labuschagne for 17 runs. With three quick wickets, the Australia Cricket Team was left tottering at 46 for three.

Australia are the defending champions, having won the last edition’s final against India. South Africa, on the other hand, are playing the final for the first time in the tournament and would be keen to end their title drought with the win.
