ICC World Test Championship 2023-25: India's schedule revealed

India are set to play 19 tests in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle - 10 at home and 9 away.

ICC announced the 2023-27 FTP (future tours program) on 17 Aug 2022. ICC World Test Championship’s 3rd cycle will start in June 2023 with the Ashes series between Australia vs England and is scheduled to finish in June 2025. A total of 27 series and 68 matches will be played in WTC 2023-25 league stage.

The top two teams will qualify for the final which will be played at The Lord’s, London.

All nine teams of the WTC 2023-25 cycle are planned to play 6 series with 3 home and 3 away formats. Each series consists of 2 to 5 test matches.

The WTC 2023-25, like previous editions, will be held across two years, with 67 matches in the group phase followed by a one-off final for the coveted mace.

India’s schedule for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25

India, Australia, and England will play the most number of matches in the forthcoming cycle, as they are set to feature in 19, 21, and 22 games, respectively. The forthcoming cycle is likely to follow the revamped rules as set for the previous cycle which essentially means that each Test will account for 12 points for a win, four for a draw, and six for a tie.

India will play 10 home Tests and 9 Tests away from home and do not have any Test series scheduled against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in these two years.

Away Series for India in WTC 2023-25 (Tentative Dates)

Team India are currently the no.1 ranked Test team in the ICC rankings and will begin their ICC WTC 2023-25 with a series of two Tests against West Indies in the Caribbean from July. India will also play three ODIs and five T20Is on the tour, with the last two T20Is to be played in the USA.

Apart from these away fixtures, the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, in which Australia will host team India in December 2024-January 2025, is one of the primary attractions of this cycle.

Notably, the two sides played a four-match series in the 2021-23 cycle, and the two cricket boards agreed to play two sets of five Test matches through 2027.

India will also tour South Africa for two Tests in the Freedom Trophy in December 2023-January 2024.

Home Fixtures for the Indian team in WTC 2023-25 (Tentative Dates):

At home, India will host Bangladesh for two Test matches in September-October 2024, but before that will come the marquee five-Test series against England which will be played in January-February 2024. Following those two fixtures, India will then play hosts to New Zealand for three Tests as well in October-November 2024.
