South Africa inch closer to the ICC WTC 2023-25 final with a 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka showed a much better fight in the 2nd SA vs SL test match in Gqeberha than they did in the first test in Durban, but couldn’t avoid a loss.

South Africa wrapped up the two-match SA vs SL series 2-0 in the first session of day 5 in Gqeberha, registering a victory by 109 runs.

This result propelled them to the top of the ICC WTC 2023-25 points table and they inched closer to their maiden WTC final.

In the second test, Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first. Ryan Rickelton and Kyle Verreynne scored respective centuries, while the skipper scored 78 runs as the hosts finished their first innings at 358. Sri Lanka gave a good reply, scoring 328 runs. Opener Pathum Nissanka top-scored with 89 runs. For the hosts, Dane Paterson took a five-for.

With a 30-run first-innings lead, South Africa posted 317 in their second innings through fifties from Markram and Bavuma as Prabath Jayasuriya claimed a five-for.

The run-chase was an exciting one as Sri Lankan batters got starts but South Africa regularly chipped away with wickets. Eventually, Keshav Maharaj took a five-wicket haul and the Lankans were bowled out for 238 runs, losing the test by 109 runs.
