England won the fourth test at the MCG by four wickets, managing to win their first game of the series and bag important ICC WTC 2025-27 points.

England won the fourth test against Australia by four wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday, December 27. The Boxing Day Test that started on December 26, finished inside two days with both teams batting woefully in the two innings. Notably, England have already lost the series, having lost the first three tests.

Batters from both teams found it tough to bat in the seaming and swinging conditions in Melbourne. The pitch had a lot of lateral movement as the batters failed to gauge the movement of the balls. England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and asked Australia to bat first.

The Aussies were bowled out for just 152 runs in the first innings, with Michael Neser top-scoring for the side with 35 runs. For England, Josh Tongue taking a fifer and grabbing the headlines. The Australian bowlers responded by bowling out England for just 110 runs and taking a lead of 42 runs heading into their second innings. Neser picked up four wickets with the ball after his batting heroics, Mitchell Starc took two and Scott Boland took three.

England hit back at Australia again in the second innings as they bowled them out for 132 runs. This time, Travis Head top-scored with 46. The England seamers shared the wickets once again, with Carse taking four, Stokes three and Tongue three. England set themselves a target of 175 in the second innings.

Openers Ben Duckett (34) and Zak Crawley (37) added a 51-run stand, giving the team a good start in the chase. The visitors lost two wickets for 65 runs. Crawley was dismissed with the team on 112 runs, still needing 63 runs to win. ‘

Jacob Bethell (40) fell with England on 137 runs in the 25th over. Joe Root (15) then fell in the 29th over followed by Ben Stokes (2) in the 32nd over. Harry Brook hit the winning runs for England in the 33rd over as he was unbeaten on 22 off 22 balls. The test match eventually finished in less than two days. England ended their 18-match losing streak in Australia finally, with this memorable win at the MCG.
