The fifth ENG vs IND test, which was part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, ended in a draw.
The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 was host to another brilliant match between the England Cricket Team and the Indian Cricket Team. The final game of the series between the teams took place at The Oval in London.
India snatched victory from England in the fifth test to draw the series by a margin of 2-2. They came up with the sensational outing with the ball in the second innings to win the game by just six runs.
India, who were asked to bat first, didn’t have a great outing in the first innings. On a green track under cloudy skies, they struggled to score big and got all out for just 224 runs. Karun Nair was the top run-getter for his team as he played an innings of 57 runs. For England, Gus Atkinson bagged a fifer.
England also struggled to go big with the bat as Indian bowlers came up with a decent effort as well. Opener Zak Crawley (64) and Harry Brook (53) hit a fifties and kept their team in the hunt. But Indian bowlers kept taking the wickets at regular intervals.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bagged four wickets each as England couldn’t take a big lead. They got all out for 247 runs, taking a lead of just 23 runs in the first innings.
The second innings effort was a decent one from India with the bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal (118) hit a blistering century and registered a brilliant 107-run partnership with Akash Deep (66), who came as a nightwatchman and ended up hitting his maiden test fifty.
Ravindra Jadeja (53) and Washington Sundar (53) slammed fifties while, Dhruv Jurel (34) played a crucial knock too as India posted 396, setting England a target of 374 runs.
England lost Zak Crawley (14) early in the chase. But Ben Duckett (54) hit a valiant fifty. He, along with Ollie Pope (27), added 32 runs for the second wicket. But India made a great comeback, picking two wickets in the first session of day four.
However, after that, nothing went in India’s favour as Harry Brook (111), who slammed a brutal ton, and Joe Root took the game away from India. They counter-attacked the bowlers and added 195 runs for the fourth wicket in a flash. But India made a strong comeback in the last session of day four as they picked quick wickets before bad light forced the Umpires to call early stumps.
Coming into day five, England needed 35 runs while India were four wickets away, and the visitors started brilliantly. Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets in his first over before Prasidh Krishna removed Josh Tongue for a duck.
Gus Atkinson (17) tried his best but Siraj oozed his class and claimed a fifer to help India win the game by a margin of just six runs.
