The ICC WTC final 2025 is scheduled to be played at Lord’s in June.
The Indian cricket team continued their winning juggernaut at home in test cricket. India, who have won all home test series since 2013, thumped Bangladesh 2-0 in the two-match test series, which was played in Chennai and Kanpur.
India won in Chennai by 280 runs and in Kanpur by seven wickets. The victory in Kanpur stunned the world as more than two days were washed out due to rain and a wet outfield, yet the hosts managed to force a result with a jaw-dropping batting display in which they scored 285 runs in only 34.4 overs.
This series victory has strengthened India’s position at the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings. Right now, they are ahead of others in the race to the ICC WTC final 2025.
After whitewashing Bangladesh 2-0, India have 74.24 PCT (percentage of points won). Australia, placed second, with 62.50 PCT, and the third-placed Sri Lanka, with 55.56 PCT, are the closest to India. At the moment, it seems that two of these three teams will reach the final.
The fourth-placed England have 42.19 PCT but they need to win their remaining six tests to have an outside chance of reaching the final.
India have eight test matches left in this WTC cycle – three at home against New Zealand and five away in Australia.
ICC WTC final scenario for India after 2-0 whitewash over Bangladesh:
If India defeat New Zealand 3-0, then even a 1-4 defeat in Australia would likely be enough for India to reach the ICC WTC final as then they would still have 60 PCT. If India win four matches and draw two, it will take their PCT to 67.54, which would seal a place in the ICC WTC final 2025 at Lord’s.
