Steve Smith scored 66 and 13 in his two outings in the game.

Australia and South Africa are wrestling in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at the Lord’s, London. During the clash, Australia veteran batter Steve Smith sustained an injury during day three’s second session.

Just ahead of the tea, the veteran batter missed a catch at slips. South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma got an outside edge off pacer Mitchell Starc’s delivery that went straight into Smith’s hands. However, he failed to grab the catch and fell on the field as Bavuma managed to save his wicket.

During the attempted catch, Smith severely injured his finger as he cried in pain. The ball also hit Smith’s helmet when he dropped the catch. Smith was forced to leave the field immediately with the team physios. The commentators mentioned that it looked like Smith dislocated his finger.

Steve Smith slammed a half-century in the first innings

Notably, the Aussie batter scored a crucial half-century in the first innings of ICC WTC 2023-25 final. He scored 66 runs before losing his wicket to Aiden Markram. In the second innings, he got out cheaply for just 13 runs getting out LBW off pacer Lungi Ngidi.

Meanwhile, South Africa have a mammoth target of 282 runs in the crucial test encounter. On the back of Mitchell Starc’s half-century (58*), the Pat Cummins & Co. piled up 207/10 on the scoreboard in the second innings to set up a powerful target. They made a fabulous comeback in the batting after railing at 73/7 at one point.

The Lord’s pitch witnessed a spicy wicket in the first innings, with batters of both sides struggling to put up runs on the board. Australia were bowled out for 212 in the first innings with Kagiso Rabada clinching a fabulous five-wicket haul. However, Proteas were bundled out for just 138 with Pat Cummins claiming six wickets.
