"If Mitchell Starc gets a couple of wickets"- Ex-Indian pacer issues warning to Indian team ahead of IND vs AUS CWC 2023 final
Mitchell Starc is currently the leading wicket taker in ICC Cricket World Cup history among active cricketers.
The high-voltage final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will take place on November 19 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India and Australia are the two best teams of the tournament and will square off against each other in the final match. These two teams have some big names that can single-handedly win the game on their day. India have shown some extraordinary performances throughout, and their batting line-up looks pretty strong.
But then they can be challenged by Australia's new ball bowlers. India have won ten matches on the trot, while Australia are coming off 8 consecutive wins. Both teams have a chance to add one more ICC trophy, as Australia have won five titles while India have two World Cups to their name. Hence, it will be a mouth-watering clash that everyone is waiting for.
"Mitchell Starc will be a big challenge," says Venkatesh Prasad
India lost the finals in 2003 to Australia. Though they beat them in the group stage earlier this tournament in Chennai, chasing a target of just over 200, Australian pacers reduced India to 3/2. And now they can once again produce a similar challenge in the finals. Former Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad also reckons the same. Prasad said that Mitchell Starc can be a big challenge for Indian top-order.
Prasad said, "100 percent, I think they have got all the areas covered. They do have the bowling attack. They have a left-arm seamer in Mitchell Starc. If he gets a couple of wickets early in the first 10 overs, it's going to be really challenging for the Indian batting lineup." He also stated that Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are also world-class bowlers who can put pressure on the opposition on their days.
The former Indian pacer also pointed out the threat that Adam Zampa brings to the table. However, he said the leg spinner needs to be a bit accurate with his line. He added that Zampa can't turn the ball like Shane Warne, hence, he should bowl in the tight line and go for wickets instead of restricting the runs.
