Shreyas Iyer missed Super four and final of the Asia Cup 2023 due to back spasms.

Team India finished a successful outing of the Asia Cup 2023 by winning their 8th title in history, beating Sri Lanka by ten wickets in the final. But now, they will be into their final preparations before the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India will host five-time World Cup winners Australia for three ODIs, starting on September 22. This will be a great chance for both teams ahead of the mega event.

On Monday, the Indian squad was announced for the upcoming series. It had some surprises. Ravi Ashwin made his comeback, while injured Axar Patel will join the team for the third and final ODI - subject to his fitness, along with senior players. KL Rahul will lead the team in Rohit Sharma's absence in the first two ODIs. Apart from that, Shreyas Iyer is also part of the three ODIs.

Ajit Agarkar provides an important update on Shreyas Iyer's injury

Shreyas Iyer, who made his comeback with the Indian team, had some fitness issues during the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2023. The star batter is a key player for the Indian middle-order and will be very important for the upcoming World Cup 2023. He has already missed a lot of cricket, and the Indian management wants to give him enough game-time ahead of the World Cup.

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said in the press conference that Iyer is good to go. He said that the star middle-order batter didn't suffer a big injury; it was just a small niggle, and he was good to go in the Asia Cup 2023 final as well. Shreyas Iyer's absence gave Ishan Kishan a chance to bat in the middle-order, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Agarkar stated, "Finals day I think he got through his program fine and that's why he's been picked. We're hopeful he'll get through these games. He's worked incredibly hard to get to this stage and be fit. And fortunately for him it was not a massive injury he picked up but he did pick up a niggle, he'll have to get through these games and we're hopeful that he will because at the moment he's fine."
