The IND vs AUS series stands levelled 1-1 after first two tests.

Following India’s 295-run win in Perth and Australia’s 10-wicket victory in Adelaide, the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 stands evenly poised at 1-1 with three more test matches to go.

India were hammered emphatically by Australia in Adelaide with the hosts’ pacers running riot over the Indian batters while Travis Head continued his love-affair with the Asian giants.

The action will next move to the Gabba in Brisbane, where India recorded one of their most famous test match wins in 2021.

Considering the magnitude of their loss, India are expected to make modifications to their line-up in the 3rd test.

IND vs AUS: Indian Cricket Team playing 11 for 3rd test against Australia, Brisbane, BGT 2024-25 – Predicted

1. KL Rahul

After impressing with his technique and patience in Perth, where he scored 26 and 77, Rahul was retained as an opener even when Rohit Sharma returned.

He started off well in Adelaide, scoring 37 runs but then failed to convert his start. Rahul scored only 7 runs in the second innings in Adelaide.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Around his 161 in the second innings in Perth, Jaiswal has scored 24 runs in the three other innings, two of which were ducks. He would be looking to fare better in Brisbane.

3. Shubman Gill

Gill returned from a thumb injury and scored 81 runs in Adelaide. He got starts in both innings, but couldn’t go past 35 in either of them. He received a jaffa from Starc in the second innings.

He has been one of India’s best batsmen this year. Gill had fond memories of Gabba from 2021, when he struck 91 in India’s epic second innings run chase.

4. Virat Kohli

Kohli scored 100* in the second innings in Perth. But his three other innings combined for only 23 runs. He got out for only 7 and 11 in Adelaide.

Being one of the senior and the most experienced batsmen, Kohli is expected to carry the batting unit in Gabba.

5. Rishabh Pant (wk)

Pant was India’s second-innings hero in the memorable victory in Brisbane last time. He has scored 87 runs in four innings on this tour so far.

He crossed the 20-run mark on three occasions, but failed to reach a half-century in any of them. The chief reason for this being the lack of supportive partners at the other end. Thrice Pant has had to come out early in the Indian innings due to the failures of the top-order.

6. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma might want to try one more test match in the middle-order. In Adelaide, he looked out of sorts in both of his innings as he managed scores of 3 and 6.

Rohit is in terrible batting form and was poor as a captain as well in Adelaide. The skipper is under immense pressure now, with the team losing four consecutive tests in his captaincy.

7. Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been one of India’s brightest spots in this series. In the three innings India have been bowled out for under 200, Reddy was the top-scorer with scores of 41, 42 and 42.

Because of running out of partners, Reddy had to take the aggressive route and lose his wicket. He has also taken two wickets.

8. Washington Sundar

After dropping Sundar for Ashwin in Adelaide, India might want to go back to Sundar for the 3rd test. Sundar was exceptional during the 2021 Gabba test: he took four wickets and scored a vital half-century.

Given India’s dismal batting performances, they could include Sundar in the XI for some extra batting cushion and he has also been in good form with the ball.

9. Akash Deep

Harshit Rana had a forgettable game in Adelaide as he ran into a marauding Travis Head. Rana leaked 86 runs in 16 overs. He is likely to be replaced by Akash Deep.

Rana’s inexperience – 10 First-Class games before this series – was a factor in his being expensive in Adelaide. Deep has an experience of 36 FC games, including five tests. Importantly, Akash has shown a wicket-taking ability against left-handers when bowling from around the wicket.

10. Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker of the series with 12 scalps at an average of only 11.25. Rohit also confirmed that Bumrah will not be rested from the Gabba test.

11. Mohammed Siraj

Siraj has taken nine wickets in two tests so far. He was brilliant in Perth, but started the Adelaide test with defensive lines and lengths. He didn’t bowl full enough to induce the drives or straight enough to target the stumps. As a result, he was regularly cut and pulled on the first evening.

Siraj did well on day 2, with his yorker to Travis Head and the following heated altercation hogging the spotlight away from his improved bowling. India would want Siraj to support Bumrah well in Gabba.

He registered his maiden test five-for at the Gabba in 2021.
