Australia won the 5th IND vs AUS test in Sydney by six wickets.

After a decade of wait, Australia have finally defeated India in a test series. And it needed all their players to be pushed to their limits and India to lose the services of Jasprit Bumrah for more than half of the fifth test to do so.

With this win, Australia clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) that India have held since 2017, and also confirmed their slot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final where they will face South Africa at Lord’s in June.

The series started with a bumper 295-run win for India in Perth. However, it was all downturn for the visitors from the second test in Adelaide, where Australia won by 10 wickets.

The third test in Brisbane ended in a rain-affected draw. Australia went 2-1 up in Melbourne with a victory in the last session of the match. They sealed the series in Sydney in the middle of day 3 of the match.

IND vs AUS 2024: Most Runs

Australia batsman Travis Head ended up as the leading run-scorer of the BGT 2024-25 with 448 runs and the only batsman to amass over 400 runs in this series that was played on pace-friendly surfaces. Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s top-scorer, behind Head with 391 runs.

Steve Smith is third on this list with with 314 runs, followed by young Nitish Kumar Reddy and India opener KL Rahul.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal (IND) – 391 runs

3. Steve Smith (AUS) – 314 runs

IND vs AUS: Most Wickets

Jasprit Bumrah finished as the highest wicket-taker in BGT 2024-25 with 32 wickets to his name at an average of only 13.06. Following Bumrah is the Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Scott Boland with 25 and 21 wickets respectively. Mohammed Siraj snared 20 wickets and Mitchell Starc picked up 18 scalps.
