Indian wicket-keeper-batsman Sanju Samson has posted yet another message on social media.
Team India announced two sets of squad to face Australia in a three-match ODI series before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. They have rested Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav for the first two ODI games in Mohali and Indore and given the leadership role to KL Rahul, while all of these premier players will come back for the final ODI in Rajkot. In recent years, Sanju Samson’s selection has become the biggest puzzle in Indian cricket. Despite two different set of squads and seniors getting rest, Sanju Samson was ignored and found no place in the squad.
Sanju reacts after to India ODI snub
Sanju Samson was dejected after the team announcement and shared his disappointment twice on social media. Initially, he posted a smiley emoji as a reaction after the BCCI announced the team for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Later in the afternoon he posted a message on his Instagram and facebook, “It is what it is, I choose to keep moving forward.”
Sanju Samson was part of the Asia Cup travelling reserve team for KL Rahul but came back home when Rahul made his comeback against Pakistan.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan and batter Robin Uthappa also shared their disappointment to not see Sanju Samson’s name in the Indian team. Both shared their views on X (Twitter), Irfan tweeted, “If I am in place of Sanju Samson right now, I will be very disappointed.”
Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa tweeted, “No one wants to be in Sanju’s shoes right now.” He further posted one more tweet, “The justification could be that even if he was in the squad he wouldn’t get a game. But not even being in the squad would be quite disheartening.”
Sanju Samson has played only 13 ODIs for India since he made his debut in 2021. He has travelled with the team most of the time but only to be benched. Despite the inconsistent chances he got, he has batted with an average above 55 in his 12 ODI innings. He scored 51 runs against West Indies in his last ODI game that he played for India. Sanju was also overlooked for the World Cup 2023 team as well. India’s bilateral series against Australia will begin on 22nd September in Mohali.
