Indian Cricket Team’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided an update on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s injury ahead of the T20I series against Australian Cricket Team. The young all-rounder sustained a left quadriceps injury and was ruled out of the third ODI between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney on Saturday, October 25.
Following all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s unavailability for India’s tour of Australia 2025 due to due to quadriceps injury, Reddy earned a spot in India’s squad for the Australia tour. He also made his ODI debut in the opening clash of the three-match series against Australia in Perth, making a promising performance with the bat in a losing cause.
After he was injured ahead of the third ODI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not name a replacement for the young all-rounder, signalling that he was expected to recover in time ahead of the T20I campaign. Notably, Shivam Dube is another seam-bowling all-rounder in India’s squad for the T20I series.
Yesterday he did a bit of running and batting in the nets: Suryakumar Yadav provides update on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s injury

Speaking to reporters in Canberra ahead of the first T20I against Australia, Suryakumar provided an update on Reddy’s injury. He revealed that the youngster has started running and batting in the nets.
“I think he is doing fine. Yesterday he did a bit of running, and batting also in the nets. Today he wanted to take a break as it was an optional practice, but we came to the ground because we had a team meeting and wanted to stay with the group. He looks good,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying by RevSportz.
Notably, Reddy will make a comeback to the T20I team after a long break, having last played against England in January 2025. The 22-year-old has featured in four T20I games so far, smacking 90 runs and clinching three wickets across three innings.
Notably, when Pandya missed Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan due to injury, all-rounder Dube was given the responsibility to open the bowling in the encounter. Suryakumar noted that Dube might get such an opportunity against Australia as well, which can help him build his confidence.
“No, no, I don’t put pressure on anyone. He knows how these conditions are, and how to bowl here. He has been working really hard on his bowling, and that is why I gave him those overs in the Asia Cup Final. I’ve been playing with him for the last 8-10 years, toh mujhe pata thha ladka kitna paani mei hai. (So I knew how good or bad he is) there is an opportunity tomorrow, then why not? If he gets to bowl against a quality team (like Australia), his confidence will grow,” Yadav stated.
Meanwhile, the first T20I between Australia and India will be played on October 29 (Wednesday) at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. Both sides will square off in five games during the series, which will conclude with the final encounter on November 8 at The Gabba, Brisbane.
