IND vs AUS: Watch - Mohammed Shami takes revenge, castles Marcus Stoinis after being thrashed for two consecutive boundaries

Mohammed Shami has done a magnificent job against Australia in Mohali to put Indian team management in a ‘Problem of Plenty’ situation. Shami is playing in the first One-day International as Mohammed Siraj’s replacement in the playing XI. Shami picked up his career-best figures in ODI cricket with his 2nd ever five-wicket haul in this format. Shami bowled beautifully to castle Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to take his revenge.

India’s one of the most successful ODI pacers Mohammed Shami was smashed for consecutive boundaries by Marcus Stoinis. After this right in the next ball, Shami took revenge against all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. Right-hand batter Stoinis was deceived completely by Shami’s pace and lost his wicket. Shami delivered one length ball to Stoinis to entice him for a big shot in the 47th over. Stoinis went for it but his timing was completely out of place. With 138 KMPH pace, Shami rattled the leg and middle stump and they went flying. Stoinis' wicket opened the floodgate and Australians were bundled out on 276 runs.

Australian lower order was going steady as Stoinis (29) had added 62 runs for the 6th wicket along with Josh Inglis (45). Shami got the breakthrough when India needed it the most, the set batters were looking to accelerate on scoring rate. Stoinis scored 29 runs in 21 balls with 5 fours in his innings. Josh Inglis was caught at covers by Shreyas Iyer in the next over to give Australia another setback. 

Mohammed Shami picks 5-wicket haul

Mohammed Shami went to pick up 2 wickets in his last over to complete his 2nd five-wicket haul. Sean Abbot was castled by Mohammed Shami and Abbot also became his fifth wicket of the day. Shami conceded 51 runs in his 10 overs spell. Shami was kept as reserve in the Asia Cup 2023 and he played only two games in the tournament. Shami played when Bumrah was absent against Nepal and after that against Bangladesh when India made 5 changes in their playing XI. 

Mohammed Shami’s spell against Australia will open up a debate about his certain place in the playing XI. Team India preferred Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur as the 2nd and 3rd choice pacers along with Jasprit Bumrah in the Asia Cup 2023. With his stunning bowling performances, Shami may force a change in team management’s initial choice. India require 277 runs to win and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
