Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t included in India’s playing XI in the first ODI in Perth.

Indian Cricket Team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has provided a massive update on whether Yashasvi Jaiswal will be included in the playing XI for the second ODI against Australian Cricket Team. The Shubman Gill & Co. are all set to square off with Australia at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Thursday, October 23 in the next encounter, which will be a do-or-die clash. India trail 1-0 in the three-match series after losing the opening game by seven wickets.

Jaiswal, who has already made a mark as an opener in tests and T20Is, has played only one ODI so far in his career. In the first ODI at the Optus Stadium in Perth, he was not picked in the playing XI. With Shubman Gill taking over the reins of the ODI and Rohit Sharma’s comeback in international cricket, there’s no place for Jaiswal in the XI.

However, the duo completely failed to provide a strong start to the team in the opening game, with Rohit losing his wicket for eight runs and Gill getting dismissed for 10 runs. Ahead of the second ODI, Jaiswal was spotted participating in the optional training session, where he underwent batting practice in the nets.

With his recent success in the test series against the West Indies, where he finished as the highest run-scorer, he can be a good option to strengthen the top order in the upcoming games against Australia. However, Indian batting coach Kotak has hinted that the Men in Blue will not make any changes to the opening combination at least in the second ODI in Adelaide.

During the pre-match press conference of the second ODI, India batting coach Kotak was asked about Jaiswal’s chances of playing in Adelaide. While he didn’t give a straightforward reply, he mentioned that youngsters like Jaiswal will have to wait for their chances.

“I think he’s in the squad, in the practice, and they (other youngsters) are pretty much aware that their turn will come, and they prepare well. At the end of the day, only 11 can play, so you have to wait for your turn and then perform,” Kotak said.

Notably, the visitors are highly unlikely to make any changes to the opening pair in the next game as Gill is the current captain of the side and Rohit only plays ODIs.
