The IND vs BAN two-match test series will be played from September 19 to October 1.
The Rohit Sharma-led India will start their home season with a two-match test series against neighbours Bangladesh. After the conclusion of the test series, both teams will play a three-match T20I series.
The Indian cricket team have thrashed every opposition at home in the past decade. The Indian side lost their last home test series in 2013.
The first test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 to September 23. The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will host the second match of the test series from September 27 to October 1.
Ahead of the two-match test series, let’s take a look at the three wicket-keeper options Indian selectors have available.
3 wicket-keeper options for India for the test series against Bangladesh:
1. Rishabh Pant
In December 2022, Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant got injured in a horrific car crash. The left-handed batter survived the injuries and made his return to the game after 15 months in the Indian Premier League 2024 season.
Pant was also India’s first-choice wicket-keeping option at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The 26-year-old also featured in the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, where he made his ODI comeback.
He could make his test comeback in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. The star cricketer has a stunning record for India while playing in whites. In 33 matches, Pant has scored 2271 runs at an average of 43.67, including 5 centuries and 11 fifties till now.
2. Dhruv Jurel
The 23-year-old Dhruv Jurel made his test debut against England in February 2024. Jurel had an impressive start to his test career: in four innings, he scored 190 runs at a superb average of 63.33.
The wicket-keeper batter also played a fighting knock in the Ranchi Test, where he scored 90 runs. Jurel will be competing with Pant for the wicket-keeper’s slot against Bangladesh.
3. Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan would also be looking to make a comeback to the test side. A few months ago, Kishan was snubbed from the BCCI’s annual contract after he refused to play domestic cricket despite being asked to. This also saw him lose his place in all three formats of Team India.
The star wicket-keeper batter made his test debut in 2023 against the West Indies, where he played two tests and scored 78 runs, including one half-century. He, however, didn’t play a single red-ball game until the Buchi Babu tournament recently.
Kishan marked his sensational return to red-ball cricket. The left-handed batter smashed a stunning 86-ball century for Jharkhand against Madhya Pradesh in the Buchi Babu tournament in Tamil Nadu.
