India’s W/L ratio of more than 1 for the first time in Test cricket history
This win was India’s 179th in test cricket history, meaning that they have more wins than losses for the first time in their history. India have played 580 test matches so far, and they eventually secured their elusive 179th win in the format, which is one more than the matches that they’ve lost – 178.
Australia achieved this feat of having their W/L ratio over 1 in their first test itself, while Afghanistan did so in their third. Pakistan needed 16 test matches to have more victories than losses, whilst England did it in their 23rd test.
The West Indies (99th) and South Africa (340th) completed the historic feat before the Indian side, while New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Ireland are yet to cross the mark.
Australia have a reasonably impressive record, with 414 triumphs and 232 defeats. England follow next with 397 victories and 325 losses. South Africa have 179 wins and 161 losses, while Pakistan have 148 wins when compared to 144 defeats.
India, who made their test debut in 1932, took 92 years to win more tests than they’ve lost. Apart from India, Australia, England, South Africa, and Pakistan have won more tests than lost. However, Pakistan have won fewer test matches than India.
Rohit Sharma’s team will attempt to clinch a clean sweep of Bangladesh in the second test in Kanpur, with the BCCI fielding an unchanged roster for the series finale.
