Rishabh Pant scored a splendid century against Bangladesh on his return to test cricket.

It’s like he never went away. Rishabh Pant picked up from his form in test cricket before his car accident in December 2022 and creamed an entertaining century in his comeback test against Bangladesh in Chennai. In the process, he equalled a record of MS Dhoni which is huge in Indian cricket.

Already a great in Indian test cricket history, Pant notched up his sixth test century – four of which have come in SENA countries – as he slammed 109 runs off 128 balls in India’s second innings in the IND vs BAN test in Chennai.

The left-hander walloped 13 fours and four sixes in his sparkling knock. Pant formed a big partnership of 167 (217) with Shubman Gill for the fourth wicket. The pair took India’s lead to over 450 runs and have virtually batted Bangladesh out of the game.

Rishabh Pant equals MS Dhoni’s massive record in Indian test cricket:

With this ton in Chennai, Pant equalled former captain Dhoni’s record of most test centuries (six) by designated wicket-keepers for India. While Dhoni hit six centuries in his career of 144 test innings, Pant cracked his sixth ton in his 58th test innings, despite playing in the era of the ICC World Test Championship where pitches have generally been bowling-friendly.

Third on this list is Wriddhiman Saha, who hit three test tons and was later replaced by Pant in the test XI.

Most test centuries by designated wicket-keepers for India:

6 – Rishabh Pant (58 innings)

6 – MS Dhoni (144 innings)

3 – Wriddhiman Saha (56 innings)

Meanwhile, after Pant raised his ton, Shubman Gill also notched up his three-figure score. Pant was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 109. India’s lead has now extended to over 500 runs.
