Jasprit Bumrah is currently India’s highest wicket-taker in the ongoing five-match test series against England.
England’s legendary cricketer Stuart Broad has questioned India’s decision to rest their premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the ongoing fourth test match in Ranchi. The Indian team management decided to give Bumrah a break citing workload management while the hosts lead the series 2-1.
India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah played the first three tests of the ongoing five-match series against England. In those games, he bowled 80.5 overs and picked up 17 wickets at a breathtaking average of 13.65. Bumrah also displayed his trademark pace and accuracy where he picked up crucial wickets at important moments, which helped hosts India win the second and third tests against Ben Stokes-led England.
The Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah left a significant mark during the matches he played and troubled the English batters Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes.
Stuart Broad questions India’s selection call of resting Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth test
After winning the toss and electing to bat first in the fourth test, England were five down for 112 and then recovered to post 353 in the first innings. The hosts India allowed England batters Joe Root, Ben Foakes and Olie Robinson to score runs and lose grip on the match. England batter Joe Root hammered a crucial century along with Olie Robinson, who notched up his first half-century in his test career.
However, the hosts, India, did feel Bumrah’s absence in the Ranchi test despite 27-year-old debutant Akash Deep showcasing his class with a 3-wicket haul.
Former England pacer Stuart Broad praised England for their exceptional performance in the ongoing fourth test match. However, the legendary pacer also raised questions on why Jasprit Bumrah was rested ahead of the Ranchi game. The former England player also criticized the Ranchi pitch.
“England massively on top. Spinners bowling accurately, uneven bounce. Cracks. Bowler’s dream. 350 looks 100 above par. Toss in this series seems crucial. Bat first, dominate the game. Bumrah ‘rested’ – can’t understand it. Eight overs in his last innings. Handed initiative back to England,” Broad said in a social media post while also criticising the pitch that India prepared for the 4th Test.
Brief Score at the end of day 2: India 219/7 in 73 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 73, Shubman Gill 38, Shoaib Bashir 4/84) vs England 353 (Joe Root 122*, Ollie Robinson 58; Ravindra Jadeja 4/67, Akash Deep 3/83).
