Day one of the first IND vs ENG test belonged to India as they had a dominating effort with the bat.

The five-match test series between the England Cricket Team and the Indian Cricket Team for Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy kicked off on Friday (20th June). The ongoing first game is taking place at Headingley in Leeds, and the first day of the game was host to a brilliant batting effort from the Shubman Gill-led side.

After being asked to bat first, Indian openers in KL Rahul (42) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) took their team off to a dream start with the bat. They looked pretty disciplined as they put England bowlers under pressure, adding 91 runs for the opening stand.

However, on the stroke of lunch, the hosts made a brilliant comeback as they removed Rahul and then sent Sai Sudharsan packing for a four-ball duck on his debut. India yet again were back in the game with Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill (127*) going great guns. The duo stitched 129 runs for the third wicket that put England on the back foot with their magnificent stroke play.

After Jaiswal got out, Rishabh Pant joined hands with Gill, who slammed a magnificent century on his test captaincy debut. Pant also hit a brilliant half-century (65*) as India dominated day one on a high ending with a score of 359 for three.

With the kind of outing they had on day one, they would be confident going into day two. The conditions looked pretty good for batting on day one, and it is expected that they will remain the same on day two. India would be keen to score as much as possible, while England would want to end the opposition’s innings as early as possible to get themselves back in the game.
