The first two days of the first IND vs ENG test lived up to the expectations.
The five-match test series between the England Cricket Team and the Indian Cricket Team began on Friday (20th June) at Headingley in Leeds. The first two days of the game saw both teams giving their best with bat and ball, giving immense entertainment to the fans.
After having a tough outing on day one of the ongoing first test, England made a solid comeback on day two at Headingley in Leeds. The hosts first bowled out India for 471, and then were 209 for three, trailing by 262 at stumps on day two.
Resuming with 359/3, Shubman Gill (147) and Rishabh Pant (134) started from where they left off last night. They batted brilliantly and added a 209-run partnership for the fourth wicket, taking the team’s score past 400 runs with ease.
However, Gill’s wicket triggered a collapse as England staged a fabulous comeback, picking the remaining wickets quickly. They ended India’s innings for 471 from a stage when they were 430/3. Skipper Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue picked up four wickets each.
In response, England didn’t have a great start as Zak Crawley (4) was back in the hut in the first over itself, courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah. But, after that, Ben Duckett (62) and Ollie Pope (100*) brought their team back in the game, scoring quick runs as they put pressure on Indian bowlers.
The Duckett & Pope added 122 runs for the second wicket before Bumrah sent Duckett packing. Joe Root (28) joined hands with Pope, who hit a blistering century. Just when it seemed things were going away from India, Bumrah yet again brought his team back in the game, removing Root. At stumps on day two, England were 209/3 and were trailing by 262 runs.
