England took command of the fourth IND vs ENG test on day three at Old Trafford in Manchester.

England dominated day three of the fourth test against India at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. They came up with a brilliant effort with the bat, taking a massive first innings lead.

Overnight batters in Joe Root (150) and Ollie Pope (71) continued from where they left off last night as England resumed at 225/2 at stumps. They stitched a brilliant partnership of 144 runs for the third wicket that put India under massive pressure.

The delayed entry of Washington Sundar brought India back in the game as he removed two quick wickets. But skipper Ben Stokes (77*) supported Root brilliantly as they added 142 runs for the fifth wicket that outplayed India.

Root, who became the second-highest run-getter in tests, slammed a brilliant century, while Stokes hit a fifty before going off the field due to cramps.

He then returned later in the day as India took a few lower-order wickets, but England were dictating the terms. At stumps, the hosts were 544/7, leading by 186 runs.
