The fourth IND vs ENG test at Old Trafford, Manchester, promises an exciting finish on day five.
India came up with a solid fightback with the bat on day four of the ongoing fourth test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. The day started with Ben Stokes slamming his 14th test century.
With a five-wicket haul and then century in the game, Stokes became only fourth England cricketer to achieve the rare double. Moreover, he also completed 7000 test runs during the game and became third cricketer after Sir Garry Sobers and Jacques Kallis to achieve the rare double of 7000 runs and 200 test wickets.
Stokes and Brydon Carse (47) etched a stand of 95 runs for the tenth wicket. With Stokes’ 141 runs, England posted a mammoth total of 669/10 in the first innings, earning a huge lead of 311 runs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar picked up two wickets each in the first innings.
In the second innings, India faced a big blow at the start as Chris Woakes dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the first over. However, KL Rahul (87*) and Shubman Gill (78*) brought their team back in the game with their unbeaten 174-run partnership for the third wicket. They batted last two sessions, ensuring India doesn’t lose any more wickets.
At the stumps of day four, India reached 174/2 on the board, trailing by 137 runs. On day five, India will aim to bat throughout three sessions to drift the match towards a draw. On the other hand, England will look to bowl out India as soon as possible to win the encounter.

The fifth day of the Manchester test will begin at 3:30 PM IST, which is 11 AM local time. The first session will be played from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM IST, followed by a 40-minute lunch break. The second session will be played from 6:10 PM to 8:10 PM.
A 20-minute tea break will follow it. The final session will take place from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM. There is a 30-minute extra time from 10:30 PM to 11 PM to cover the daily quota of overs.
