IND vs ENG: Dhruv Jurel reveals reason behind 'Salute' celebration in 4th test

Dhruv Jurel scored 90 and 39* in the fourth IND vs ENG test in Ranchi.
Wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel was India’s match winner in the fourth test match played at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. Jurel played two defining knocks in the game and helped India seal the five-match test series against England. After Ranchi, the caravan will move to Dharamsala for the final test match of the ongoing series. Jurel made his debut in Rajkot and became a sensation with the bat.
Dhruv Jurel scored unbeaten 39 in the second innings under pressure and helped India chase down 192 on a crumbling Ranchi wicket. Jurel’s application and determination was lauded by former Sunil Gavaskar and he earned a great comparison of himself with MS Dhoni. Jurel scored his maiden test fifty in the first innings of Ranchi test and scored 90 runs where his salute celebration became a big talking point among fans.
Dhruv Jurel explains ‘Salute’ gesture
Dhruv Jurel has explained the reason behind his special ‘salute’ celebration after reaching the milestone. Jurel said that the celebration was for his father. Talking in the press-conference, Jurel said, “The celebration was obviously for my father. He was a Kargil War veteran.” Jurel fell short of his maiden century by 10 runs in the first innings. Jurel batted for 149 balls and hit 6 fours and 4 sixes during his knock.
Dhruv Jurel also revealed that his father asked him to do a ‘salute’ as celebration. Jurel added, “I spoke to him (Father Nem Chand) last evening, he said ‘Beta Salute to dikha de’ (Son, Show me the salute) because I have been doing that since I was a kid.” Jurel’s father Nem Chand is a former war veteran. Jurel’s father Nem Chand fought in the Kargil War during 1999.
Dhruv Jurel’s father Nem Chand wanted his son to become a soldier and become part of Indian Army. Jurel’s interest was mainly on cricket and he started playing at very young age. Jurel has become a young sensation in Indian cricket. Jurel rose to the limelight with his blistering knock against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 where he scored 34 runs in 15 balls.
