India vs England Test Series 2024
IND vs ENG: Rahul Dravid breaks silence on Ishan Kishan after 2nd test in Vizag
Ishan Kishan has been out of action since he pulled out SA tour citing mental fatigue.
After losing the first test in Hyderabad, India bounced back well to win the second test against England in Visakhapatnam by 106 runs. With three more games remaining in the ongoing series, both teams are expected to give a tough fight to each other. India are yet to announce their squad for the final three test matches in Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala.
Following India’s win in the Vishakapatnam test, head coach Rahul Dravid has made a bold statement on Ishan Kishan’s chances in the Indian squad. Kishan is currently out of the action following a break due to mental fatigue. Kishan left the Indian camp midway through South Africa tour and made himself unavailable. Now, Dravid has suggested a way back for Kishan in the Indian squad as he believes Kishan is still not ready.
Dravid’s explanation on Ishan Kishan situation
While answering to a question related to Ishan Kishan, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid said, “You know, the point was, he requested a break and we were happy to give him the break. And whenever he was ready, I didn’t say he had to play domestic cricket. I said, whenever he is ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back and the choice is right, not forcing him to do anything.”
Rahul Dravid further revealed that he and selectors are in constant touch with Kishan and the team management has maintained a constant the communication with young players. Dravid added, “We’re in touch with him. But he hasn’t yet started playing right. So it’s not at the moment. It’s not something that we would consider, because he’s maybe not ready. He will decide when he wants to be ready. I’m sure the selectors will assess all the options”
Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan has not played a single game after the T20I against Australia in Guwahati. Kishan’s absence became a big news when he was spotted partying in Dubai after returning back from the South Africa tour. India are yet to finalise their squad for the final three matches of the five-match test series against England. Wicket-keeper KS Bharat‘s poor show with the bat in Visakhapatnam will prompt Indian team management to look at other available names in Indian cricket.
