Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood for two runs in Nagpur.

After a disastrous test tour of Australia, Rohit Sharma’s return to white-ball cricket was also inauspicious as the Indian captain was dismissed for only two runs in the 1st ODI against England.

The IND vs ENG three-ODI series kicked off on Thursday at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat first.

England got a thrilling start from Phil Salt and Ben Duckett as the pair added 75 runs in 8.4 overs before India struck back with three wickets in a space of only eight balls.

England’s innings labored for a while and even as Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell hit fifties, the visitors couldn’t go past 250, finishing with a total of 248 runs.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Harshit Rana took three wickets each, while Shami, Hardik and Kuldeep took one wicket each.

However, India had a poor start with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit both dismissed inside the first six overs with only 19 runs on the board.

Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood swung the ball under lights and troubled the Indian openers. Archer got Jaiswal edging to the wicket-keeper, while Rohit missed his flick stroke and handed a catch to mid-on off Mahmood.

Sharma managed just two runs as his poor rut continues. Between the BGT 2024/25 and the IND vs ENG ODI series, Rohit played one Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai and managed only 31 runs in two innings.

The Indian captain was criticized and trolled heavily by fans on Twitter.
