Virat Kohli missed the first IND vs ENG ODI due to a knee injury.
On Thursday, 6th February, Indian Cricket Team secured a comfortable four-wicket win in first ODI of the three-match ODI series against England in Nagpur.
Playing their first ODI since August 2024, India put on a strong bowling performance to bowl out England for 248 and chased the target in the 39th over.
Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Harshit Rana starred with the ball picking three wickets each, while Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel posted half-centuries in the chase to guide the hosts to a win.
The win, however, came with a pinch of salt for Indian fans, who were eagerly waiting to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in ODI colours after their recent struggles in test cricket.
Rohit struggled with the bat, scoring just two runs, while Kohli missed the game due to a knee injury.
Following the game, Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill has now shared an update on Kohli’s fitness and spoke about his chances of playing in the next ODI in Cuttack.

Speaking to the broadcasters after the game, Gill said Kohli had knee swelling in the morning, but was fine during practice the day before the match. He dismissed any concerns and said Kohli would be fit for the next game.
Gill said, “When he woke up in the morning, he had some swelling in his knee. He was fine till yesterday’s practice session. There’s nothing to worry. He will definitely be fit for the next game,“
Kohli will look to improve his record at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, where he has surprisingly scored just 118 runs in four innings at an average of 29.5, a tally much lower than his usual standards.
The Indian team management will also hope that their No. 3 gets some runs before the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19.
