India vs England Test Series 2024
IND vs ENG: India playing XI for 2nd test, Vishakapatnam, 2024 - Predicted
IND vs ENG second test will begin on 2nd February, 2024 in Vishakapatnam.
England will remember the Hyderabad test win for a long time. England crushed India by 28 runs in the first test played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad and took a 1-0 lead in the ongoing five-match test series. Now the caravan will move to ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The second test will start on 2nd of February. India suffered a major setbacks before arriving in Vizag.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and middle-order batter KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second test in Visakhapatnam due to respective injuries. Ravindra Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury while KL Rahul complained about trouble in his right quadriceps. This will force Indian team management to make a few changes in their playing XI. They have even added three players to replace these both in the squad. Let’s have a look at India’s predicted playing XI for the second test.
1. Rohit Sharma (C) :
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the batting performance in the second innings of the first test in Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma himself got a good start in both the innings, but failed to convert them into a big score Rohit Sharma will be looking to wash away the disappointment of the Hyderabad test and put on a solid show in the second test in Visakhapatnam.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal :
India’s left-hand opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant half-century in the first innings of the first test match and concluded his innings for 80 runs in 74 balls. Jaiswal smashed 10 fours and three sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal disappointed everyone with his approach in the second innings. Jaiswal threw his wicket away in the second innings of the Hyderabad test. He will be looking for a big score in the second test.
3. Shubman Gill :
India’s new number three batter Shubman Gill is yet to prove himself in test cricket. Despite having a stellar run in limited-overs cricket, Shubman Gill failed to replicate a similar performance in test cricket. Gill looked stuck in the first innings of the first test where he was dismissed for 23 runs. In the second innings, Gill was out on a second ball duck. He will be looking to play a big knock in Visakhapatnam.
4. Shreyas Iyer :
With KL Rahul getting ruled out of the second test, Shreyas Iyer will most probably be India’s number four batter in Visakhapatnam test against England. Shreyas Iyer got a start in the first innings of the Hyderabad test and scored 35 runs, In the second innings Jack Leach dismissed Iyer when he was batting on 13 runs.
5. Sarfaraz Khan :
Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan earned his maiden India call-up after his consistent performances in First Class cricket. Sarfaraz recently scored a ton for India A against England Lions at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. He might come in as KL Rahul’s replacement in India’s playing XI. Sarfaraz Khan might make his test debut in the Visakhapatnam test.
6. KS Bharat (WK) :
Wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat will retain his place in India’s playing XI for the second test in Visakhapatnam. Bharat was great with the bat for India in the second innings of the Hyderabad test. Bharat scored 41 runs in the first innings and 28 in the second innings. He did a great job for India behind the wickets as well.
7. Ravi Ashwin :
Ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has been India’s biggest match-winner in test cricket in the last few years. Ashwin will be aiming to complete 500 wickets in the second test against England at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Ashwin is currently at 496 test wickets and is just four wickets away from the magical milestone. Ashwin picked up six wickets for India in the first test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
8. Axar Patel :
Axar Patel will have a big responsibility in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel will be promoted one place up in the batting-order and also in the bowling department. He will have to build a partnership along with Ravi Ashwin in the spin bowling department. In the first test in Hyderabad, Axar Patel scored 44 runs in the first innings and 17 in the second. With the ball, he picked up three wickets in the first test in Hyderabad.
9. Washington Sundar :
Washington Sundar replaced injured Ravindra Jadeja in the Indian squad for second test against England in Vishakapatman and might replace him directly in the playing XI too. Sundar will be a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja as he can contribute both with the bat and the ball. Sundar last played a test for India way back in March 2021 against England in Ahmedabad. He will making a comeback into the test XI after three years.
10. Jasprit Bumrah :
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a terrific second spell in the second innings in Hyderabad but that was not enough for India. Jasprit Bumrah picked up four wickets in the second innings but couldn’t change the result. Jasprit Bumrah will be taking up the responsibility as the leader of the pace attack against England in the Visakhapatnam test as well.
11. Mohammed Siraj :
Right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj had a poor game in the first test at his hometown Hyderabad. He went wicketless in the first test. Siraj bowled four overs and conceded 28 runs in the first innings. Indian team management will be expecting him to replicate the magic of Cape Town in the second test. Siraj will be playing alongside Bumrah to form India’s fast bowling attack.
