IND vs ENG: Indian Cricket Team 15-member squad for T20I series against England - Predicted
IND vs ENG: India will host England for a five-match T20I series, starting January 22.
Following the test series in Australia, the Indian Cricket Team will return to limited-overs action. They will first host England in a five-match T20I series, from January 22, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be played from February 19 before the Indian players take centerstage in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
While India have struggled in test cricket recently and played only three ODIs in 2024, they dominated T20Is last year. India played 26 T20Is in 2024 and won 22 of them. This included being unbeaten throughout the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, at the end of which, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the format.
Under the new full-time T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, India defeated Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa. Next in their sight is England, whom they defeated in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024.
The ODI and test players such as Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Siraj, will be most likely get rested for the five-match T20I series against England.
IND vs ENG: Indian Cricket Team 15-member squad for T20I series against England – Predicted
1. Sanju Samson (wk)
It’s not hard to believe but Sanju Samson might have cemented his place as the first-choice opener in India’s T20I team whether Rishabh Pant is in the team or not.
He was India’s leading T20I scorer in 2024, the peak of which came later in the year when he hammered three centuries in five matches against Bangladesh and South Africa. He had a strike rate of 180 last year in T20Is.
2. Abhishek Sharma
With Rohit retiring, and Gill and Jaiswal busy with test cricket, Abhishek Sharma got to make his T20I debut last year. He slammed a century in his second T20I in Zimbabwe but flattered to deceive in the rest of his opportunities.
He did struck at 171 last year but an average of 23 isn’t great. Sharma, though, remains a promising talent and would get more chances considering he bats with ultra-aggressive intent.
3. Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma was out of the team, but the moment he got the chance to bat at No. 3, the young left-hander grabbed it with both hands. He smashed two consecutive centuries in the last two T20Is against South Africa and is expected to continue in the No. 3 slot now.
4. Suryakumar Yadav (C)
Suryakumar Yadav has started superbly as a full-time T20I captain with three series wins in a row. He has continued to dominate with the bat, scoring 429 runs at a strike rate of 151 last year with four fifties.
5. Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag missed the T20I series in South Africa due to a chronic right shoulder injury. If he is fit now, he is expected to be part of the IND vs ENG T20I series.
Parag had a fantastic 2023/24 domestic season with Assam and IPL 2024 with Rajasthan Royals, where he had a breakthrough season at No. 4. He was part of the T20I series in Sri Lanka and impressed in bits and pieces in both batting and bowling.
6. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is no more the vice-captain of the white-ball teams, but remains a key cog in the side. He delivered exceptional all-round performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, helping India clinch the title.
With the bat, he averaged 44 in T20Is in 2024 and took 16 wickets.
7. Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh couldn’t replicate his success of 2023 in 2024. Despite that, he had two fifties in the year and averaged 35 at a strike rate of 150.
Rinku, who was snubbed from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, is an important player for India as they build for the T20 World Cup 2026.
8. Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube was unavailable for selection for the South Africa tour due to an injury. Picked for his explosiveness against spinners, Dube averaged 32 last year in T20Is. His cameo in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa proved to be crucial as India won the final by only seven runs.
With the rise of Nitish Kumar Reddy, there is now pressure on Dube’s spot in the squad.
9. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy made his T20I debut against Bangladesh and played a sizzling knock of 74 (34) in his second T20I. He missed the South Africa tour due to the test series in Australia. He picked up three wickets as well in those three games.
10. Axar Patel
Axar was India’s third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is in 2024. He played a key role in India’s title triumph at the T20 World Cup 2024 with both bat and ball and clearly was a bigger contributor than Jadeja, who has now retired.
Axar had an economy of only 7.08 last year. He also had an average of 22.83 with the bat.
11. Varun Chakravarthy
Varun Chakravarthy made a stunning comeback to the Indian T20I team. In seven matches, he snared 17 wickets last year at an average of 12.41 and was a huge reason for India’s series win over Bangladesh and South Africa.
He could become a crucial member of the side heading into the T20 World Cup 2026.
12. Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi remains an underrated campaigner but his numbers speak volumes: 22 wickets in 16 T20Is in 2024 at an average of 20.86.
Both Bishnoi and Chakravarthy have made it difficult for India to bench either one of them when Kuldeep Yadav returns in the T20I fold.
13. Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh was simply outstanding in 2024 in T20Is and especially at the T20 World Cup, where he was the joint-leading wicket-taker.
In 2024, he took 36 wickets in 18 games at a jaw-dropping average of only 13 and an economy of less than 8.
14. Mayank Yadav
Mayank Yadav missed the South Africa tour due to an injury. He has not taken part in the domestic matches as well since the Bangladesh series, where he made his T20I debut and took four wickets.
The selectors would be hoping that Mayank retains his fitness going forward as his high pace is the X-factor India always wanted.
15. Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal was part of the squad that toured South Africa, but didn’t get to make his T20I debut. He had an impressive IPL 2024 season with RCB, where he picked up 15 wickets.
