Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 5th T20I.

At the toss of the 5th T20I in Mumbai, England captain Jos Buttler cheekily trolled the Indian team management for their concussion substitute ploy during the 4th T20I in Pune.

India and England locked horns in the last T20I of the series on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. India had sealed the series in the previous game in Pune, taking an unassailable 3-1 lead.

The match was marred with an interesting controversy as India got to use pacer Harshit Rana as a concussion substitute for batting all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Dube, who hit a match-winning fifty, was struck on his helmet during the last over of India’s innings, and then was ruled out of the rest of the match. Even though India had Ramandeep Singh, who was more like-for-like replacement of Dube, the hosts were allowed to field Rana as Dube’s concussion replacement.

Rana made a huge impact on the game as he picked up three wickets. Eventually, England fell only 15 runs short of India’s total.

In the post-match press conference in Pune, Buttler had said, “It is not a like-for-like replacement. We don’t agree with that. Either Shivam Dube has put on about 25mph with the ball or Harshit has really improved his batting. It’s part of the game and we really should have gone on to win the match, but we disagree with the decision.”

Jos Buttler mocks India with “Impact Subs” joke

At toss of the 5th T20I, Buttler named four “Impact Subs” of England. Impact substitution is a rule allowed only in the IPL and is not available in international cricket. Buttler’s jibe was directed at the Indian team management or the match referee for allowing Rana to replace Dube.
