Captain Rohit Sharma didn’t walk out to take field on Day 5 of the Dharamsala test.

Team India are in commanding position at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. With a top class batting show, India scored 477 runs and took a massive 259-run lead in the first innings. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored centuries to take India towards a dominating win in the fifth test against England. But on Day 3, India suffered a major setback.

Captain Rohit Sharma didn’t walk out to take field due to stiff back. Rohit Sharma played a big knock and scored 103 runs in 162 balls. Rohit spent four hours at the wicket. He smacked 13 fours and three sixes in his knock. It is still unclear whether Rohit will be able to take field on day three action of the test match or not.

Why Rohit isn’t taking field?

Captain Rohit Sharma complained about stiff back and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also released an official statement regarding the same. BCCI’s posted on social media platform X, “Captain Rohit Sharma has not taken the field on Day 3 due to a stiff back.” The board and management is yet to reveal whether Rohit has been taken for scans or not.

Right arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be taking charge as captain of the Indian side in absence of Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah is India’s designated vice-captain in the ongoing five-match test series against England. Rohit Sharma had a terrific series with the bat and scored two centuries. Rohit Sharma became the first captain to out-rightly win a test series against England under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

James Anderson completed his special 700 wickets milestone on Day 3. Anderson dismissed Kuldeep Yadav to pick up his 700th test wicket. He became first ever fast bowler and overall third bowler to complete this milestone in test cricket. Shane Warne is the second highest wicket-taker in tests with 708 wickets while Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralidaran is the leading wicket-taker with 800 wickets.
