Rahul Dravid highlighted the importance of Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee.
Following India’s convincing 4-1 victory in the recently concluded test series against England, head coach Rahul Dravid has deflected some of the praise towards his support staff, specifically mentioning the contribution of former Indian cricketer and current chief selector of BCCI Ajit Agarkar. Dravid’s acknowledgement highlights the importance of teamwork and the unseen efforts behind a team’s success.
Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made his 100th test game memorable with a five-wicket haul in the second innings, while leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and speedster Jasprit Bumrah shared two wickets each in the second innings as the hosts crushed the visitors by an innings and 64 runs to win the final match at the Himachal Pradesh Association Stadium and the five-match series 4-1.
Ravichandran Ashwin also joined the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble in the elusive list of bowlers to bag a five-wicket haul in their 100th test match.

The Indian cricket team went through lots of ups and downs throughout the five-match test series against England. The hosts suffered many changes in the lineup due to constant injuries, unavailability of players, and workload management, which made the Indian side give out five debuts in the series against the Three Lions.
At various points in the series, India missed the services of senior cricketers Mohammed Shami, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, but they emerged victorious despite losing the first test.
Indian head coach Rahul Dravid was in full praise for the selectors who ‘pushed and challenged’ the team management to play new options.
“I’d just like to give a big shoutout to Ajit [Agarkar, chairman of selectors] and his team as well,” Dravid said. “A lot of the youngsters that come in, honestly, as a coach and as a captain, we don’t actually get to see them because we don’t see as much domestic cricket as Ajit and his team of selectors do. And they’ve pushed us and they’ve challenged us to pick some of these young players and they’ve picked the right ones and they’ve come out here and performed. So sometimes it’s not easy being a selector because you always get the criticism but a big credit and a big pat on the back to Ajit and his team as well,” Rahul Dravid said after winning the series.
With India’s test series win against England, the spotlight is firmly on the team’s coaching staff. Dravid’s act of giving credit where it’s due not only strengthens the team’s unity but also paves the way for a more collaborative approach to future endeavors. This recognition is sure to motivate the support staff and inspire them to continue their excellent work behind the scenes.
