Dinesh Karthik provided a massive update on Ravi Ashwin’s availability for the ongoing 3rd test.
After the end of the day 2 play, Rohit Sharma-led India were hit by a huge blow as their senior-off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was forced to fly back to Chennai due to his mother’s illness on Friday, February 16, in-between the ongoing third test match between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.
As Ravichandran Ashwin withdrew from the Rajkot test, several questions were raised about whether the Indian veteran off-spinner would take part in the remainder of the ongoing third test or not.
According to the MCC Laws, India won’t be allowed to field a substitute who could bat or bowl in Ashwin’s place, as it is allowed only when a concussion substitute or if the player has contracted with the COVID-19.
In Ashwin’s case, uncapped Indian player Devdutt Padikkal took the field on day 3 on Saturday, February 17. However, Padikkal is not allowed to bat or bowl in the ongoing Rajkot test match against Ben Stokes-led England.
Dinesh Karthik provides massive update on Ravichandran Ashwin’s availability in the third test
According to the latest developments, India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be allowed to rejoin the side anytime, and he can bat or ball in the ongoing crucial third test match against England in Rajkot.
The massive update was shared by Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik, who is currently working as a commentator in the five-match test series between India and England.
Dinesh Karthik stated on air that Ashwin can rejoin the Indian side whenever he is ready. Karthik also added that the umpires have given Ashwin that favor.
“Ravi Ashwin can come anytime during this Test Match and bowl straightaway. The umpires have given Ashwin that favor,” Dinesh Karthik said on air.
Meanwhile, Ashwin became the second Indian bowler after legendary Indian cricketer Anil Kumble to pick 500 or more test wickets in the longest format of the game. The right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved this huge feat after dismissing England’s Zak Crawley in the first innings on Friday.
