Rohit Sharma broke MS Dhoni’s record as captain in international cricket.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a magnificent knock of 131 runs in the first innings against England during the third test match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15. During the third session of day 1 of IND vs ENG Rajkot Test, the opening batter Rohit notched up his 11th test ton and concluded his innings at 131 runs off 196 deliveries, laced up with 11 fours and three sixes before getting dismissed by Mark Wood.

However, during his stay, the veteran opener went past MS Dhoni’s most sixes tally by an Indian captain in international cricket. Before the third test, Rohit had 209 maximums, and he needed three more sixes to go past Dhoni’s tally of 211 sixes. After his knock of 131 runs where he smashed three huge sixes, Rohit went past MS Dhoni’s tally of 211 maximums and the former now has 212 sixes, which is the most by any Indian captain in International cricket.

Overall, the 36-year-old opener Rohit is now placed second on the list of most sixes by a captain in International cricket. Eoin Morgan tops the list with 233 sixes.

Rohit added another milestone to his name as he completed 1000 test runs against the English side. The veteran opener took 23 test innings with three tons and four half centuries to reach the 1000-run milestone.

However, Rohit Sharma also surpassed MS Dhoni to become India’s second-highest six-hitter in test cricket. The opener now has 80 sixes as compared to Dhoni’s (78).

The Indian captain also went past legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly to become India’s fourth-highest run scorer in international cricket. Rohit is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid.

After electing to bat first, India were rocked back by the English side in the first session as the hosts lost three wickets in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rajat Patidar in just 8.5 overs. However, Jadeja joined hands with Rohit and added a double hundred stand for the fourth wicket.
