Rohit Sharma reached his century in the 2nd ODI against England off 76 balls.
Nobody in the world makes hitting sixes look as easy and elegant as Rohit Sharma does. And it was on display during his blazing century against England in Cuttack on Sunday.
The Indian captain has been in a poor rut in recent months, but he has rocked back to form with a dominant ton against the Three Lions that put India in the driver’s seat in the chase of the 305-run target.
This was the first time that Rohit Sharma crossed the half-century mark since October last year and his first century since March last year. His last ODI century came during the 2023 World Cup against Afghanistan.
This century from Rohit was his 32nd in ODI cricket and 49th in international cricket.
It was an exhibition of boundary-hitting from Rohit. He plundered seven sixes until reaching three figures, which he also did with a six down the ground off Adil Rashid. Earlier, he had tore into Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood.
Rohit scored runs all around the Barabati Stadium, and despite losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in quick succession, the Indian captain continued to play attacking shots and target the boundary rope.
Rohit Sharma reached his century off 76 balls as the required run rate dipped below 4.7 runs per over. His ton is a huge relief for Rohit himself, the team management, the selectors and the fans and a massive boosting factor ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Fans hailed Rohit on social media on his return to form, and he did it in a typical Rohit style while playing an attacking brand of cricket.
