Rohit Sharma hammered a half-century against England in Cuttack.

India captain Rohit Sharma finally rocked back to form with a blazing knock against England during the second ODI in Cuttack.

At the Barabati Stadium, as the pitch got easier to bat on under lights, Rohit returned to his best touch by smashing dazzling sixes to the England pace trio of Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood.

While he cracked a six each to Wood and Atkinson, he was severe on Mahmood, the bowler who had dismissed him in the first ODI in Nagpur, whacking the seamer for two eye-catching sixes.

Rohit hit his first half-century in international cricket since the first test of the home series against New Zealand. In the interim, he had a disastrous time in test cricket, struggling against New Zealand and Australia and also managing two cheap scores in the Ranji Trophy before getting out for only two runs in the Nagpur ODI.

Until reaching his fifty in Cuttack, Rohit slammed four sixes, which helped him go past Chris Gayle’s tally of sixes in ODI cricket and now Rohit has hit the second-most sixes in this format.

Gayle hit 331 sixes in his 20-year ODI career. Rohit Sharma now has hit 335 sixes until the time of writing. Now, ahead of Rohit on this list sits only Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with 351 sixes. If Rohit remains consistent, he might go past Afridi’s tally in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Most sixes in ODI cricket:

  1. Shahid Afridi – 351
  2. Rohit Sharma – 335*
  3. Chris Gayle – 331
  4. Sanath Jayasuriya – 270
  5. MS Dhoni – 229

Meanwhile, India are cruising in their chase of the target of 305 runs, with Rohit and Shubman Gill scoring 86 runs in 11 overs.
