Rohit Sharma played a thunderous innings of 119 runs off 90 balls in the 2nd IND vs ENG ODI.

India captain and opener Rohit Sharma returned to form with a sizzling century in the second ODI of the ongoing series. This was Rohit’s first international century since March last year, and it helped him come out of a dire rut he’d been in since the home test season.

Rohit endured horrendous test series against New Zealand and Australia and then even failed during his Ranji Trophy return.

He managed just two runs in the first ODI against England in Nagpur but turned his fortunes around spectacularly in Cuttack with a sensational knock of 119 runs off 90 balls in the chase of 305.

Rohit’s innings included 12 fours and seven sixes. He formed a 136-run opening stand with Shubman Gill in 16.4 overs.

Despite India losing Gill and Kohli in quick succession, Rohit kept going after the bowling and didn’t let England crawl back in the game. As a result, by the time Rohit got out, India had raced to 220 in the 30th over and were on their way to seal the chase.

Rohit Sharma becomes second-most successful opener for India in international cricket

During his innings in Cuttack, Rohit achieved a huge milestone as he became India’s second-leading run-scorer in international cricket, going past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 15335 runs, and now sits behind only Virender Sehwag, who has 15758 runs.

Most runs for India as an opener in international cricket (all three formats combined):

  1. Virender Sehwag – 15758 runs
  2. Rohit Sharma – 15404 runs
  3. Sachin Tendulkar – 15335 runs
  4. Sunil Gavaskar – 12258 runs
  5. Shikhar Dhawan – 10867 runs
